The Blue Jacket Fashion Show to benefit the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) kicked off during New York Men’s Fashion Week with a runway show and dinner at Pier 59 Studios in New York City on February 1st, 2017. The Prostate Cancer Foundation founded by philanthropist and financier Michael Milken to fund groundbreaking cancer research that saves, extends and improves the lives of not only prostate cancer patients but other cancer patients as well. The world’s largest healthcare company, Johnson and Johnson sponsored the event in support of prostate cancer awareness and February’s Cancer Prevention Month. The Blue Jacket Initiative is an inaugural New York Fashion Week event bringing together the fashion world to create buzz around men’s cancer issues, awareness and prevention. The witty and dapper TV personality Carson Kressley was the MC for the runway show. Ian Mellencamp opened the show performing his song, “Headspace”. Celebrity models New York Giants Wide Receiver Victor Cruz, science educator and host of the forthcoming Netflix series Bill Nye Saves the World Bill Nye, New York Yankees Pitcher CC Sabathia, comedian and actor Mario Canton, New York Post’s Richard Johnson, actor Lee Tergesen, models Alessandro Mele and Alex Lundqvist, and CNN Anchor Don Lemon got their swagger on the catwalk. The Blue Jacket Fashion Show included designers John Varvatos, Thom Browne, Nick Graham, Joseph Abboud, Nicole Miller, Proper Cloth, Step7hen F, Maggie Norris, Rag & Bone, Theory, Gustavo Moscos and Haspel who designed the one-of-a-kind blue jackets for the cause. Grammy and Tony award winning star Melba Moore closed the show with a stellar performance. Cocktail reception in silent auction featuring sports memorabilia and original artworks with all proceeds benefiting the Prostate Cancer Foundation. Before dinner Jonathan W. Simons, MD, president and chief executive officer of PCF thanked everyone for contributing to a memorable evening, “Today, our work being done in precision oncology research is unprecedented with new discoveries happening daily. Our continually expanding global research enterprise brings together the brightest minds in prostate cancer research and other scientific areas to collaborate across borders and institutional lines. The guests left with a swag bag full of Paul Mitchell men’s haircare product line MITCH, Neutrogena for Men and handmade chocolates from Compartes.
